Mini bio
How it started.
Alison Mosshart met Jamie Hince while touring England with her punk band Discount. Before she moved to London, they traded song ideas on cassette tapes, using a four-track recorder Jamie had lent her. Their long-distance exchange became The Kills.
Finding their sound.
Keep On Your Mean Side arrived in 2003, followed by No Wow in 2005. Their spare setup made room for Mosshart’s voice, Hince’s guitar and programmed rhythms. The 2008 breakthrough Midnight Boom brought songs including “U.R.A. Fever”, “Last Day of Magic” and “Black Balloon”.
Songs that stayed.
Blood Pressures followed in 2011, with “Future Starts Slow” and “Baby Says”. Ash & Ice arrived in 2016, including “Doing It to Death” and “Heart of a Dog”. Little Bastards gathered B-sides and rarities in 2020.
A different way to write.
For God Games, Alison began writing on a small keyboard and Jamie composed more on piano. They recorded with Paul Epworth, who had been their sound engineer in 2002. The 2024 Happier Girls Sessions then revisited songs from the album in non-electric versions.
