Mini bio

How it started.

María Zardoya and Josh Conway met at the Kibitz Room in Los Angeles while she was playing a solo show and he was running sound. He invited her to record at his studio. As their songs grew into a band, they brought in close friends to play with them.

Finding their sound.

Formed in 2016, The Marías introduced their mix of jazz, disco and indie pop through the two Superclean EPs. Their 2021 debut album CINEMA expanded that world, with film helping shape both the sound and the way they imagined each song.

The blue chapter.

Submarine followed in 2024. María and Josh continued making music together after their romantic relationship ended, turning that change into songs about heartbreak and recovery. “No One Noticed” became one of the band’s breakout songs, and they earned a Best New Artist Grammy nomination for 2026.
