Mini bio

How it started.

Alex and Marko grew up in San Diego with a New Zealand father and a mother who worked as a flight attendant. In 2012, they joined forces in San Sebastián, Spain, combining Alex’s interest in filmmaking with Marko’s travel writing.

The trip that changed things.

Their 2013 win in My Destination’s Biggest Baddest Bucket List competition gave them a six-month journey across six continents and 25 destinations. Making a travel show on the road helped turn Vagabrothers into their full-time work.

Two budgets, one destination.

Their destination films pair food and local culture with practical travel advice. On Tastemade’s Basic Versus Baller: Travel at Any Cost, the brothers explored the same destinations on very different budgets, from Hong Kong to Los Angeles.

Where they are now.

In a July 2022 post, Marko explained that the pandemic had brought the joint project to a close and that the brothers had chosen different creative paths. Alex continued filming on his own channel in New Zealand. Marko returned to writing through The Missive and live storytelling in Mexico City. Their recent updates follow those individual projects.
