Mini bio
How it started.
While at university in Kedah, Yuna bought an inexpensive guitar and taught themself to play. At 19, they wrote “Deeper Conversation” about someone they liked. Performing while studying law and sharing music on Myspace helped them build an audience.
Making the first record.
For the 2008 debut EP, Yuna borrowed about RM1,000 from their father to record five songs. Friends and bandmates helped make it happen. They told DUNIA that gigs and university shows helped them repay the loan within three months.
Across borders.
The international album Yuna arrived on FADER Label in April 2012 with three tracks produced by Pharrell Williams, including “Live Your Life.” “Crush” with Usher followed on Chapters in 2016. Rouge brought further collaborations, including G-Eazy, Little Simz and Tyler, The Creator.
The recent records.
Yuna released Y5 in 2022, Wasting Away in 2024 and The Valour Hour in 2026. The newer EP brings five songs together, including “believer” and “wasteland.”
