Mini bio
How it started.
Afro B grew up in London with Ivorian parents. Music began with piano in church, before DJing and promoting events became a route into singing. In a 2021 interview with The Source, Afro B recalled slipping original songs into DJ sets and performing at self-organized events.
The song that travelled.
The 2018 single “Drogba (Joanna)” became the breakout. Afro B told DJcity that a dance challenge helped it travel through social media and into club DJs’ sets. Official versions with Wizkid and French Montana followed, as documented by Marathon Artists.
Building Afrowave.
Afrowave connects Afrobeats with dancehall, hip-hop and R&B. Alongside releasing music, Afro B helped compile “Moves: The Sound of UK Afrobeats” and continued sharing African music on Capital XTRA. Recent releases include “Diana” with Goyo, “Bonita” with Marie Monti and Lucas Dila, and the solo single “Mapouka.”
