Mini bio

How it started.

Alex studied biology and film at Brandeis, then worked as an associate producer. She missed talking about science, so in 2012 she began making her own YouTube explainers. Bite Sci-zed gave her a place to bring those two interests together.

Life in the lab.

While completing her genetics PhD at Stanford, she added videos about graduate school and laboratory life to help viewers see scientists as people. By the time she finished in 2018, her channel had drawn more than 2 million views. She moved to Los Angeles to pursue science communication and freelance production.

Science as a conversation.

Through Helicase Media and collaborations with organizations including the American Chemical Society, PBS Digital Studios, and the Museum of Science, Alex works across writing, hosting, production, and voiceover. She approaches explanations as conversations with a friend, pairing scientific research with everyday questions and a fondness for silly humor.
