Mini bio

How it started.

A Los Angeles native, Alexander became interested in Middle Eastern and South Asian calligraphy and poetry as a teenager. An early public appearance came as a contestant on Project Runway: Threads in 2014. They later studied fashion design at FIT in New York and tailoring at Polimoda in Florence.

From a label to a factory.

Alexander started Alex of Arabia in 2017. The clothing label grew into a garment factory, while custom suits remained part of their work. Their 2018 collection drew on Arabic lettering and Persian proverbs. During the pandemic, the factory switched to masks and protective equipment.

Clothing that fits the person.

In 2022, Alexander and costume designer Lynn Brannelly began sharing adaptive alteration videos and co-founded Sewn Adaptive. Alexander told VoyageLA that working on Runway of Dreams changed their plans for a career in fashion. Their work included replacing buttons with magnetic closures and tailoring garments around individual disabilities.

Where to find the work now.

Alexander’s current site focuses on custom Western suiting, charro suits and rhinestone looks, alongside live chainstitch embroidery for events in Los Angeles and Palm Springs. Sewn Adaptive belongs to an earlier chapter: an October 2025 update from Threads says Lynn Brannelly now solely owns and operates it.
