Mini bio

How it started.

Growing up in Barcelona with parents who worked in publishing, Juan was surrounded by magazines and books. They sketched dresses as a child, but first trained in engineering and economics and worked in banking before changing direction toward fashion.

Finding an audience.

Juan launched the Avellaneda label in 2014. Early celebrity clients included Nieves Álvarez and Ronnie Wood. Television brought the styling work to a wider audience through Cámbiame, followed by a place on MasterChef Celebrity 4 in 2019.

Style you can talk about.

Instagram and TikTok became places to discuss celebrity outfits, trends and runway collections. Alongside that commentary, Juan creates womenswear as creative director of Juan Avellaneda x See Iou and designs eyewear with Mó.

From clothes to stories.

The practical style guide Poténciate appeared in 2018. In 2025, Juan moved into fiction with Flashing lights, a novel set in high fashion. In interviews, they describe an interest in helping people find a personal style and in creating experiences beyond clothing.
