Mini bio

How it started.

Ali grew up in Lahore and graduated from Harvard College in 2006. They went on to study Hindustani classical music with Ustad Naseeruddin Saami and ghazal singer Farida Khanum. Before the music reached a global audience, Ali published the novel The Wish Maker in 2009.

Finding a voice.

Ali’s singing featured in Mira Nair’s The Reluctant Fundamentalist, followed by appearances across several seasons of Coke Studio. In 2022, “Pasoori,” a duet with Shae Gill, became a global breakout. Brown University’s biography records it as the first Pakistani single to top Spotify’s Global Viral chart.

Following the music.

The collaborations keep opening different doors. Intiha pairs Ali’s Urdu vocals with Nicolás Jaar’s electronic soundscapes, drawing on Jaar’s Telas. Love Language followed in 2025, and the eight-track Room Jhoom with Gregory Rogove arrived in May 2026.
