Mini bio
How it started.
Alice trained in medicine and anatomy at Cardiff and worked as a junior doctor in South Wales. At Bristol she became an anatomy lecturer, researched ancient human remains and completed a PhD in palaeopathology.
From bones to broadcasting.
Her television debut came in 2001 as a human bone specialist on Time Team. Coast brought her into a wider presenting team, and The Incredible Human Journey took her around the world in 2009 to explore our species’ origins.
Reading the past.
Her books Ancestors, Buried and Crypt use burial archaeology and genetics to recover lives beyond the usual histories of rulers. Alongside writing and broadcasting, she has been Birmingham’s Professor of Public Engagement in Science since 2012.
