How it started.
Before making videos, Andrea was an avid YouTube viewer. In September 2016, they began filming vlogs on a phone. Requests from viewers drew the channel toward skincare, which became a stronger focus in January 2017.
Finding an audience.
The channel reached 100,000 subscribers by May 2018 and 480,000 by September 2019. In an interview with Erika Vieira, Andrea described choosing topics from viewer requests, personal interests and what might help the audience.
The science behind the videos.
Andrea is a board-certified dermatologist based in Houston and holds a PhD in molecular biology. The Dr Dray channel combines ingredient explainers, product reviews and viewer Q&As, with an emphasis on approachable skincare. Omnilux appointed Andrea to its Scientific Advisory Board in April 2024.
