Mini bio
How it started.
Andy grew up in New York in a musical family. His father, Red Grammer, made children’s music. After high school, Andy returned to California and earned a degree in Music Industry Studies at California State University, Northridge. Street performances on Santa Monica’s Third Street Promenade helped him develop his voice and led to a deal with S-Curve Records.
Finding his audience.
“Keep Your Head Up” began as encouragement to himself after a long day of street performing. It became his 2011 breakout, followed by songs including “Honey, I’m Good,” “Fresh Eyes” and “Don’t Give Up On Me.” The latter reached movie audiences through Five Feet Apart.
Letting more feelings in.
On Monster, Andy explored anger and difficult relationships alongside the hope fans know him for. Picking up a mandolin helped shape the album, and he developed its sound with producer Adam Friedman. He followed it with acoustic reworkings on The Friends & Family Sessions, then Big Stupid Heart in 2026.
Showing up for others.
His podcast invites people to share stories of someone who helped them, which he turns into songs. That same interest in care runs through his charitable work: in 2013, he launched the KathyGramm campaign with Tahirih Justice Center to support immigrant women and girls fleeing violence, honoring his late mother.
