Mini bio
How it started.
Ane grew up in Molde, Norway, with music at home and a musician mother. At 21, while studying in Oslo, they took the family guitar along and began playing every day. Singing led to songwriting, and by 26 they were recording a first album. Spending Time with Morgan arrived in 2003.
Building an independent path.
A Temporary Dive followed in 2005 and won Norway’s Spellemann award in the female artist category. Ane kept releasing music through their own label, now Balloon Ranger Recordings. It All Starts with One brought another Spellemann win for 2011, with José González on Worship and First Aid Kit on Do You Remember.
Songs that keep changing shape.
Ane’s catalogue makes room for both original songs and personal interpretations of other writers. Leave Me Breathless collected 14 covers in 2017, while Portrayals gathered versions including Halo, All My Tears and Big in Japan in 2023. The 2020 album After the Great Storm earned Swedish Grammis awards for alternative pop and composer of the year in 2021.
What comes next.
I Thought We Were the Same is scheduled for November 6, 2026. Announced as Ane’s first album of newly written material in six years, it explores trust and betrayal through a more overtly pop-oriented sound. Hold Me with ARY and Eat the Fruit with Röyksopp lead into the record, with a Nordic tour announced for early 2027.

Trivia

- Ane recorded Blue Moon secretly while on tour in Hamburg as a 50th-birthday surprise for their Manchester City-supporting manager.
- To Let Myself Go began on a four-track tape recorder in Bergen around 1999. Producer Katharina Nuttall later encouraged Ane to put it on A Temporary Dive.
- Hold Me was inspired by a dance performed without music. Ane waited until sitting at the piano with a microphone before watching the choreography.
