Mini bio

From the classroom.

Before building WhatDaMath into a science channel, Anton taught math, science and design in high school. His channel biography lists a science degree from McGill, research in Dr. Hojatollah Vali’s astrobiology lab and a later master’s in science and math education at the University of Toronto.

Learning in public.

An early upload from June 2013 explains blood flow through the heart. Anton wrote that he made it mainly to help himself study for the MCAT and hoped it would help someone else, too. He later shifted his teaching toward YouTube, using visuals and accessible explanations to bring scientific discoveries to a wider audience.

A trip into a black hole.

His 2016 Space Engine video lets viewers fly around and enter a simulated black hole in 360 degrees. It became his channel’s most-viewed video in Inside Créateurs’ November 2026 snapshot. His later catalogue includes the 2019 Voyager 2 explainer and frequent updates on astronomy, physics and biology.

A name in the sky.

In May 2025, the asteroid naming authority published the name (660931) Antonpetrov. Its citation recognizes his work popularizing astronomy and mathematics through social media.
