Mini bio

From classroom to camera.

Before YouTube, Dave taught science in high school and undergraduate settings. He began by recording organic chemistry lectures he had developed for his students. Professor Dave Explains launched in January 2015, and the positive reception encouraged him to cover more subjects.

A wider classroom.

His chemistry background grew into a library spanning physics, biology, mathematics and subjects beyond science. He told The Freethinker that he hires writers for areas outside his expertise and learns the material while making the lessons.

Learning to spot bad science.

Dave says his first flat-Earth debunk took off and encouraged him to make debunking a regular part of his work. Today, his tutorials sit alongside responses to science denial and pseudoscience. His 2021 book, Is This Wi-Fi Organic?, brings that interest in scientific literacy to readers.
