Mini bio

How it started.

Cody grew up on his family’s ranch near Grantsville, Utah, and later studied geology at Utah State University. He joined YouTube in 2011. In a 2017 Concord Monitor interview, he explained that he started uploading experiments to share a video with his grandmother, then other viewers began watching.

Finding an audience.

The Concord Monitor traced his early breakout to a video about making gunpowder from urine. Chemistry, bees and recovering metals became recurring subjects. When he reached 250,000 subscribers, he made his own silver play button; for one million, he made a cesium version.

Long experiments.

His projects often keep developing across videos. Chicken Hole Base includes a greenhouse he finished and pressurized in 2025, followed by another attempt at carbon dioxide fumigation in 2026. Other experiments include a terrarium recreating conditions from more than 300 million years ago and voice tests with noble gases.

Supported by viewers.

On Patreon, Cody says fan support helps fund chemicals, equipment and land so he can keep making videos full time. His 2026 work includes desert ice making, fermentation and a simulated Mars habitat repair using pressurized suits.
