Mini bio

How it started.

Ben grew up in Göttingen and began classical piano lessons at six. A later teacher, jazz pianist Christoph Busse, helped him explore improvisation. His older brother introduced him to electronic clubs, and at 16 he began making beats in FL Studio. He moved through Logic Pro to Ableton Live as he developed a way to perform his own music.

Finding his audience.

His debut album Breathing arrived on Anjunadeep in November 2019. In 2020, his sunrise Cercle performance took his music into a hot-air balloon above Cappadocia, Turkey, and became a major introduction for new listeners. He won the public-voted Best Live [Streamed] Act prize at the 2021 AIM Independent Music Awards.

Music with a personal thread.

Begin Again, released in 2021, grew out of the separation Ben and his partner experienced during pandemic travel restrictions. For his third album, Bloom, he returned to improvisation and expanded his songwriting with guests including Lykke Li, Oh Wonder and Enfant Sauvage. Ninja Tune released it in September 2024.

Trivia

  1. He learned trumpet as well as piano growing up.
  2. He told EDM.com he was a little afraid of heights, even though he performed in a hot-air balloon for Cercle.
  3. Bloom was written almost entirely in a home studio built around a piano, speakers and acoustic treatment.
