Mini bio

How it started.

Biffy Clyro formed in Kilmarnock in 1995, with Simon Neil on guitar and lead vocals, James Johnston on bass and Ben Johnston on drums. James and Ben are twins. Their debut album, Blackened Sky, came out in 2002 on Beggars Banquet, produced by Chris Sheldon.

Finding a wider audience.

Their fourth album, Puzzle, reached UK number two in 2007. Only Revolutions followed in 2009 with songs including “Mountains”, “Bubbles” and “Many of Horror”. Matt Cardle’s cover of “Many of Horror”, retitled “When We Collide”, became the UK Christmas number one in 2010.

Building their own catalogue.

Opposites became their first UK number one album in 2013. Ellipsis and A Celebration of Endings also reached the top spot, followed by Futique in 2025. Futique credits the band as co-producers with Jonathan Gilmore, with songs and lyrics by Simon Neil and music by Biffy Clyro.

On the road now.

James announced a break from touring in December 2025 to seek professional help. Naomi Macleod took on bass duties for the 2026 shows, including the band’s Finsbury Park headline set in July.
