Mini bio

How it started.

Simon Green began releasing music as Bonobo in 1999 after moving to Brighton. His first appearance was on a Tru Thoughts compilation, followed by Animal Magic in 2000, a debut on which he played most of the instruments himself.

Finding the sound.

Black Sands brought live instruments, bass-heavy production and Andreya Triana’s voice into focus in 2010. The North Borders followed in 2013, taking his music to larger stages. Migration in 2017 and Fragments in 2022 both reached number five on the UK albums chart.

On stage and in the club.

His live shows grew into full-band performances with guest singers and immersive visuals, including a five-night Royal Albert Hall residency. Alongside those shows, Simon curates OUTLIER events and plays DJ sets.

A new chapter.

In 2025, he released music for the anime series Lazarus. Distance in Static followed in September 2026, bringing together voices singing in English, Urdu and Japanese. Simon has described this period as a chance to rethink the familiar rhythm of making an album and touring it.
