Mini bio

How it started.

Raised in Hawaii, Dianna studied physics at MIT. Her path included astrophysics research at the Harvard-Smithsonian Center for Astrophysics, software engineering at General Electric, and science outreach at the Fleet Science Center and UC San Diego. Physics Girl began in 2011, after college.

Finding her audience.

She initially made videos to build experience in science communication. Winning the 2014 Flame Challenge brought press coverage and contact from PBS. Her pool-vortex video then reached a much wider audience. PBS sponsorship helped turn the channel into her full-time work.

Curiosity on camera.

Physics Girl explores physical science through experiments, demonstrations, and discoveries. Dianna later returned to independent production. Her Explain to My Editor format grew from office conversations in which editor Levi Butner could ask questions about big physics ideas.

Life and work now.

Severe Long COVID interrupted her science filmmaking for three years. In March 2026 she returned with a video about neutrinos. Her October health update described another prolonged crash after attempting to film, and her team continues sharing updates and footage with fans.
