Mini bio
How it started.
Dominic grew up in Cheltenham and went on to study quantum device physics at the University of Birmingham, completing his PhD in 2010. He taught undergraduates during his research and later worked in Canada’s quantum computing industry.
A school friendship becomes a book.
In 2011, his schoolfriend Ben Newman asked him to write a children’s book about space. Dominic supplied the science and Ben supplied the illustrations. Professor Astro Cat’s Frontiers of Space appeared in 2013, beginning a collaboration that also explored physics, the human body and the deep sea.
Finding the bigger picture.
On Domain of Science, Dominic turns whole subjects into illustrated maps so viewers can see how the branches fit together. After the success of The Map of Physics, viewers asked for a map of mathematics. He followed that curiosity into more fields, including chemistry, biology, engineering and medicine.
Keeping the curiosity.
He told STEM Learning that researching unfamiliar topics is one of his favourite parts of making videos. His aim is to make science feel approachable enough that people can follow their interest and keep learning.
