Mini bio

How it started.

Doug grew up in Denver and studied economics at Emory University. After graduation, he spent three years at Porsche Cars North America. He began writing about cars alongside his office job, then left to pursue writing.

Finding his format.

While writing for Jalopnik in 2013, Doug tried video after a reader suggested it. Early ownership videos, including his Ferrari 360, helped establish the channel. Reviews of other cars caught on, and viewer feedback steered him toward the unusual details that became his familiar quirks-and-features tours.

A score fans can debate.

The DougScore gives each car marks in ten categories, divided between weekend enjoyment and daily usability. Doug has said he added it partly to give viewers a reason to stay through the end of his reviews.

Beyond reviews.

Doug launched Autotrader’s Oversteer enthusiast blog and co-founded Cars & Bids in 2020. The auction business gave him a way to build beyond YouTube. His work now also includes THIS CAR POD!, where he and friends discuss automotive news, the market and audience questions.
