Dr Disrespect

How it started.

Guy Beahm developed the Doc’s voice while playing Halo 2, then brought the character to YouTube in 2010. Before making streaming a full-time career, Beahm worked at Sledgehammer Games as a community manager and a level designer on Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare.

Finding an audience.

After leaving Sledgehammer at the end of 2015, Beahm built a Twitch audience around H1Z1 and PUBG. The Doc’s mullet, sunglasses and confrontational character made the broadcasts a performance as well as a gaming session. In 2017, Doc won Streamer of the Year at the Esports Industry Awards and Trending Gamer at The Game Awards.

Beyond the stream.

The character became the subject of the 2021 book Violence. Speed. Momentum., which Beahm also narrated. Music is part of the work too: Volkor X credits Dr Disrespect with the lyrics and vocals on the 2022 track Another Way.

Platform changes.

Twitch permanently banned Beahm in June 2020. In June 2024, Beahm acknowledged messages with a minor that he described as sometimes inappropriate; he later denied exchanging sexually explicit messages. Midnight Society, the studio he co-founded, cut ties with him, and YouTube suspended monetization. Rumble announced a deal in November 2024, and YouTube restored monetization in January 2025.
