Ellen Gendler earned her medical degree at Columbia in 1981 and completed her dermatology residency at NYU in 1985. Her work has included contact dermatitis, cosmetic dermatology, and teaching at NYU. Her practice biography also describes additional training at St John’s Hospital for Diseases of the Skin in London.
How it started online.
Recovering from back surgery and unable to play tennis, she began scrolling social media and was troubled by skincare misinformation. One sleepless night, she posted about sunscreen. The likes and shares encouraged her to keep explaining what she knew, a story she told The Sunday Paper in 2024.
