How it started.
Shah grew up in New York and trained as a dermatologist after studying at Hofstra University and Nova Southeastern University. During residency in North Carolina, the pandemic gave them time to try TikTok as a creative outlet. Early videos answered questions about acne, scars and hyperpigmentation.
Finding an audience.
A video questioning popular skincare trends took off, followed by a 20-part “What’s on your skin?” series. Shah’s program director encouraged the educational work and its potential to reach people beyond the clinic. Shah later brought fellow dermatologist Luke Maxfield onto YouTube for Doctorly.
From explaining formulas to making them.
Shah launched Remedy in March 2024, building a skincare brand around concerns seen in patients. The work expanded into a nationwide Target launch in December 2025 and a Series A investment led by L Catterton in 2026.
