Mini bio
How it started.
Emi began modeling for Seventeen in 1999 after a friend encouraged them to apply. In a MAQUIA interview, they recalled commuting from Kyoto for shoots and finding a second school in the magazine. Before modeling, they had dreamed of becoming a veterinarian.
Finding their own pace.
Fans came to know Emi as Emichii through Seventeen. They went on to PINKY, then widened their magazine work after it stopped publishing. Their screen work includes Water Boys 2 and Yukan Club, alongside the 2005 music video for Ketsumeishi’s “Sakura”.
From wearing clothes to making them.
Emi launched Lautashi for autumn/winter 2017, seeking creative work they could steer themselves after becoming a parent. Making the self-edited publication s’eee had already taught them to take responsibility for a project’s details, from layout and fonts to paper.

Emi continues to share makeup, haircare and personal answers in MAQUIA’s EMI SAYS..., alongside fashion and beauty work. Their Lautashi Design project collaborated with MAISON DE AQUA on EAUf in 2025. They also initiated Family Heart Talks in 2024, bringing professionals and families together for approachable sex-education events.
