Mini bio
How it started.
Tom’s chemistry videos grew out of Explosions&Fire. In a Chemistry World interview, he recalled building the original channel over seven years before YouTube suspended it in late 2017. Extractions&Ire became the companion space for more detailed synthesis videos and conversations about life.
The cubane journey.
The cubane series gave viewers a project to follow through setbacks and successive attempts. Its 2024 compilation brings together a journey spanning more than three years. Researchers later highlighted the cubane race between Extractions&Ire and Chemiolis as an example of community interest in advanced organic chemistry.
What fans come back for.
Tom also follows materials chemistry into fluorescent nanocrystals, perovskites, pigments and unusual glass. His video descriptions credit independent musicians and editing collaborator Indigo. In December 2024, he introduced a fresh cubane project, followed by the Big Cubane 2025 videos.
