Mini bio

How it started.

Faisal grew up listening to Kishore Kumar, Mehdi Hassan and Abida Parveen. When he was ill at around six or seven, his father brought him a harmonium. Lessons with Ustad Ghulam Haider followed, then a short appearance on Sohail Rana’s children’s television programme Saray Dost Hamaray.

The Strings years.

He co-founded Strings with Bilal Maqsood and fellow college students in Karachi in 1988. “Sar Kiye Yeh Pahar” broke through in 1992. After a hiatus, Duur brought the band back in 2000, followed by Dhaani in 2003. Strings also contributed “Na Jane Kyun” to the Hindi soundtrack of Spider-Man 2.

On both sides of Coke Studio.

Faisal and Bilal produced Coke Studio seasons 7 through 10, from 2014 to 2017. Strings ended in March 2021 after 33 years. Faisal returned as a solo singer on Coke Studio 14 with “Phir Milenge”, a collaboration with Young Stunners.

A chapter of his own.

His debut solo album, Zindagi Jahaan Le Jaaye, arrived on 2 February 2024 with eight tracks. He has since kept adding singles, soundtrack performances and collaborations, including 2026 releases with Talha Anjum and Zara Madani.
