Mini bio

How it started.

Growing up in an army family meant moving around Pakistan, though Shiraz calls Lahore home. In his own account, he sang covers with a band called Wet Metal as a teenager. His mother encouraged him, and he completed an MBA before following music as a profession.

Finding his audience.

Jhuki Jhuki (2005), particularly its title track and “Mann Ja Ve”, brought wider attention to his solo music.

A lasting musical friendship.

A.R. Rahman became both a collaborator and a mentor. Shiraz recalls recording “Shakalaka Baby” in the UK when he could not get an Indian visa, then learning by watching Rahman work in Chennai. Their collaborations later included the title song of Raanjhanaa and a North American tour.

The voice and the studio.

His work reaches beyond his own vocals. From S.U. Studios in Lahore, he composes, records, mixes and masters music. His official biography credits him with producing Atif Aslam’s “Tajdar-e-Haram” for Coke Studio and composing “Pehli Dafa”. Film songs, qawwali performances and solo pop all run through his catalogue.
