Mini bio
How it started.
Rohail grew up in Rawalpindi and played in underground bands before co-founding Vital Signs in 1986. With Junaid Jamshed on vocals, the band reached a national audience through Dil Dil Pakistan in 1987. Rohail played keyboards and helped shape the group’s music, going on to produce its debut album, Vital Signs 1.
A meeting place for music.
In 2008, he created Coke Studio Pakistan, bringing contemporary performers together with folk and classical musicians. He produced the first six seasons and returned for seasons 12 and 13. Performances such as Arif Lohar and Meesha Shafi’s Alif Allah Chambay Di Booti offer a way into that sound.
Beyond the studio series.
His credits include the Khuda Kay Liye soundtrack and co-producing Rahat Fateh Ali Khan’s Charkha with Faisal Rafi. In 2022, he helped produce a new recording of Pakistan’s national anthem. He later served as executive producer of Velo Sound Station’s second season and co-produced Meesha Shafi’s Sar-e-Aam in 2025.
What interests him now.
On his own website, Rohail describes a practice spanning production, creative direction, music, technology, culture and nature. Connecting artists and musical traditions remains central to how he talks about his work.
