Mini bio
How it started.
Ian grew up in Chicago with two painter parents. In a 2015 interview with Fake Shore Drive, he recalled an exchange of art and dance classes that led him to a hip-hop lesson built around Michael Jackson’s “Thriller.” He started dancing at 10 and later trained in hip-hop, jazz and ballet.
Finding his audience.
Ian told BENlabs that he began uploading to YouTube in 2006, aged 12, learning to transfer footage from videotape and teaching himself to edit. Those early uploads helped turn dance into a career: by 16 he was traveling internationally to teach. He went on to perform with Mos Wanted Crew on America’s Best Dance Crew.
Dance as the main event.
His work ranges from choreography for Taemin’s “Danger” and Childish Gambino’s “Sober” to lead choreography for “Sunday Candy.” With AdultLessons in 2015, he packaged his own dance work as a visual mixtape. In 2017, he brought his students, the Young Lions, to NBC’s World of Dance.
What he is building now.
Ian continues to connect choreography, filmmaking and teaching. His short Path turns a garage into the setting for a solo performance; WENZDAYS opens up free space for dancers to build and learn choreography together. His YouTube channel also carries his music releases under the name E!.
