Mini bio

How it started.

An ABBA tribute concert sparked James’s childhood interest in music. He taught himself Beatles songs on guitar and began writing his own, later drawing inspiration from the Strokes and Foals. His audience grew through YouTube commentary and comedy while he was at university.

Finding his songs.

Music was part of his online work before it became his main focus. After listeners responded to songs he had made as jokes, he decided to try something more personal. “Slow Down” arrived in 2020, followed by the EPs No Left Brain and Bitter Tongues. “Grapes” became a fan favourite with a recurring September life on TikTok.

From screens to stages.

His debut album, Are We There Yet?, reached number 17 in the UK in 2023. Don’t Tell The Dog followed in June 2025 and became his first number-one album. In his Line of Best Fit interview, James connected the second record’s writing to childhood experiences and the ways they shape adult relationships.

The next chapter.

In 2026 he released “California Rain” and “Burn Down The Disco”, headlined Brixton Academy and announced Warning Signs for January 2027. “Lovestruck” followed in October, alongside plans for a 2027 tour.

Trivia

  2. In the “Romanticise This” video, the love story is between James and a balloon, as he explained to The Indie Scene.
  3. He learned to dance for the “Lovestruck” video, according to the single’s label announcement.
