Mini bio
How it started.
Javier was born in Burgos and moved to Gran Canaria when he was nine. He studied telecommunications engineering at the University of Las Palmas de Gran Canaria and physics at the Complutense University of Madrid. His research took him to the French space agency CNES and then CERN, where he worked on CMS, one of the experiments behind the Higgs boson discovery.
Finding his voice.
He told Xataka that popular science books changed his idea of physics, opening up a world beyond school exercises. His first science communication work was giving guided tours at CERN, followed by scientific comedy monologues. He wanted to make the material he wished he could have found as a curious teenager.
From monologues to millions.
As a cofounder of Big Van, he brought science to the stage through comedy. Date un Voltio and Date un Vlog carried that approach online. By the time of his 2019 Xataka interview, his three YouTube channels together had more than a million subscribers. Books, television and talks gave fans more ways to follow his questions about the universe.
Science with a piano.
El Club de la Tusa brings his interests together on stage: physics, history, poetry, philosophy and piano. He created and directed the show, using heartbreak as a starting point for questions about human experience. Alongside his online work, he has also presented La última frontera and co-presented Whaat!? with Rocío Vidal.
