Mini bio
How it started.
Josh studied archaeology and drama at Tufts, bringing together interests that would later shape his television work. After college, he worked odd jobs to pay for travel, returned home when money ran low, then saved for the next trip.
The first expedition.
A producer friend told him an adventure series needed a host. Josh arrived for the interview straight from Tanzania, still in his safari clothes after climbing Kilimanjaro. He landed Destination Truth, which debuted in 2007 and followed his investigations of creature sightings and paranormal stories for five seasons.
Following the questions.
Expedition Unknown launched in 2015, taking his curiosity into archaeological mysteries and historical legends. He expanded into Expedition X and the pandemic-born talk show Josh Gates Tonight in 2020, then Expedition Files in 2024. His 2011 book, Destination Truth: Memoirs of a Monster Hunter, shares stories from behind the camera.
