Mini bio
How it started.
Originally from Auckland, Karl first visited India in 2013. After studying computers and film at university and being made redundant twice, he decided to build something of his own. He moved to India, bought a $400 GoPro and began making videos for fun. Viral videos turned that interest into a career.
What fans come for.
His work combines everyday travel with practical help: talking with locals in Hindi, trying regional food and showing visitors how to recognise scams. His YouTube channel dates to 2017. Videos such as The DIRTIEST Scam in India capture the street-level encounters that became a familiar part of his channel.
Beyond the travel vlog.
Karl also worked with fellow creator Jim Browning to investigate scam call centres, helping locate an operation using a camera drone. His written guides bring the same helpful approach to travelling safely in India and learning Hindi as an English speaker. The University of Auckland selected him for its 2021 40 Under 40 in the Humanitarians category.
Life between trips.
Karl lives in New Delhi with his wife, Manisha Malik, and family. He says he has visited every Indian state and union territory, as well as Pakistan and Bangladesh. Recent work has taken viewers through Pakistani markets, food and heritage sites, while his blog also follows his interest in music festivals.
