How it started.

Kurt grew up in New Jersey and Pennsylvania and found a love of music and performance through high school musical theater. At Yale, the mathematics student developed the recording and filmmaking skills that would shape a YouTube channel launched in October 2007.

A familiar voice, multiplied.

Kurt and Sam Tsui knew each other from school in Blue Bell, Pennsylvania. Their 2009 Michael Jackson Medley became the breakthrough: Kurt arranged and produced the music, while video editing let Sam appear as an entire vocal group. Kurt later told The Philadelphia Inquirer it was the first video that went truly viral.

Kurt founded NoodleHouse Studios in 2009 and moved to Los Angeles in 2011. Collaborations became central to the channel, from Sam Tsui and Christina Grimmie’s “Just a Dream” to cup rhythms, the one-take “I’ll Think Of You” and the Coke-bottle performance “Pass It On”. The music and the way it is filmed are both part of the experience.

Still making things together.

The long-running partnership with Sam continued with their fourteenth year-end mashup in December 2024. More recent videos include collaborations with Madilyn Bailey, a “Golden” remake challenge and the January 2026 song “You Will Be Loved”, made for Kurt’s daughter.

  1. Kurt learned chess at eight and became a master at fifteen, according to the interview with The Philadelphia Inquirer.
  2. Kurt and Sam Tsui rode the same school bus. Sam’s stop came just after Kurt’s.
  3. Yale’s Phi Beta Kappa list records Kurt as a mathematics student in the class of 2010.
  4. The first video Kurt posted to YouTube was “Watch YTV”, a song promoting Yale’s campus television channel.
