Mini bio

How it started.

Born in New York City and raised in Toronto, Krauss studied mathematics and physics at Carleton University, then earned his physics PhD at MIT in 1982. Research and teaching took him through Harvard, Yale and Case Western Reserve before he led the Origins Project at Arizona State University.

Physics for curious readers.

The Physics of Star Trek, first published in 1995, became an international bestseller by bringing real physics to questions raised by science fiction. A Universe from Nothing followed in 2012 and became a New York Times bestseller. His books give readers a route into cosmology through questions about matter, space and the universe’s beginnings.

Long conversations, new lessons.

In 2019 he founded the Origins Project Foundation and began hosting The Origins Podcast. Its conversations bring together science and culture, with guests including Ricky Gervais, Brian May and Elizabeth Loftus. He also publishes Critical Mass, where fans can follow his essays, lectures and podcast releases.
