Mini bio
How it started.
Leire grew up in a Basque fishing town and began writing songs at 13. After moving to London, busking in Leicester Square became a full-time job and a way to meet listeners.
Songs with something to say.
The debut EP Me, You, This World arrived on April 30, 2021. Written partly during a master’s degree in songwriting, its four songs address the pandemic, anxiety and addiction, inequality, and climate change.
Finding an audience.
Street covers helped Leire reach a wider online audience. The Music Man highlighted the viral performances of Lady Gaga’s “Always Remember Us This Way” and Radiohead’s “Creep”; the latter uses a LAVA GENIE instrument.
Originals and shared stages.
Alongside solo releases such as Breathe Better and Birthday Party, Leire records with Atticus Blue. The pair also perform as Rueben & Gotxi, joining other musicians for group street performances including “Dreams” and “Jolene”.
