Mini bio

How it started.

Lianne La Havas is a London singer, songwriter and guitarist. Family listening ranged from Jamaican reggae to Michael Jackson, Mary J. Blige and the Fugees. While spending a year at art college, Lianne sang backing vocals for other musicians before choosing to concentrate on solo songwriting.

The breakout.

An appearance on Later… with Jools Holland in 2011 brought Lianne to a wider audience. Bon Iver played the same episode and invited Lianne to open their North American tour that December. The Matt Hales-produced debut Is Your Love Big Enough? followed in 2012 and earned a Mercury Prize nomination.

Finding the sound.

For Blood, released in 2015, a trip to Jamaica with Lianne’s mother became a way to reconnect with family and explore identity through songwriting. The album received a Grammy nomination. The 2020 self-titled album follows the arc of a relationship, with collaborators including Matt Hales, Beni Giles and Mura Masa. It won Best Album at the 2021 Ivor Novello Awards.

A new chapter.

In October 2025, Lianne returned with “Disarray,” a sparse recording of voice and guitar produced by Matt Hales. Recent collaborations include Yukimi’s “Stream of Consciousness” and Meshell Ndegeocello’s version of “Don’t Look Any Further.”
