Mini bio
Finding her way into physics.
Mithuna’s route into physics began with a change in confidence. In her own account, she describes starting out very bad at maths, then going on to major in pure maths and love it. Her early Looking Glass Universe videos were already exploring quantum ideas such as spin in 2013.
Building a community of learners.
While doing her PhD at Cambridge, she made animated tutorials to help secondary school students approach quantum mechanics. By 2019, the channel had more than 100,000 subscribers. Cambridge recognised that work with a joint STEMM Technology-Enabled Learning Prize, praising the accessible hand-drawn illustrations and her engagement with learners in the comments.
Taking quantum experiments home.
She completed her quantum computing PhD in 2020 and chose to leave research, a decision she later explored on the channel. With support from Screen Australia and Google Australia’s Skip Ahead initiative, she developed Quantum Experiments At Home, directed and produced by Mithuna and also produced by Emma Watts. The videos include her double slit experiment and a homemade quantum computer, with animations by Kathy Sarpi.
Following a new set of questions.
In 2025, Mithuna co-hosted and co-wrote a PBS Space Time episode about the quantum eraser with Matt O’Dowd. In March 2026, she announced a shift from physics videos toward AI, explaining that she felt the subject could not wait. Her recent work investigates AI personalities, safety and proposals to pause development.

Trivia
- Her homemade quantum computer video lists a red laser pointer, polarizing film and a half-wave plate among the materials viewers can use.
- Kathy Sarpi created Alice and Mad Hatter puppets for the channel’s quantum experiments, drawing on its looking-glass theme.
- Her 2026 AI videos also point fans toward a FarmKind fundraiser for animals.
