Mini bio
How it started.
Raised in Lahore, Rehman Afshar learned piano as a child, then switched to guitar. He began by singing covers for family and friends. By the end of his A levels he was writing songs, and he chose music over plans for medical college. During his first semester at LUMS, he made his first song and video with Jamal Rehman at True Brew Records.
Finding his own sound.
Maanu began releasing music in 2018. Watching Pakistan’s independent bands perform original songs helped him imagine music his own generation could relate to. His catalogue grew through Yain City in 2020 and Sakuna Matata, moving between pop, rap and electronic sounds.
The Jhol chapter.
Maanu wrote “Jhol” before it reached Coke Studio. Xulfi suggested adding a female voice, and Annural Khalid joined the song for Season 15 in 2024. Their duet became a turning point for both artists and later won Song of the Year at the 2025 Lux Style Awards.
A place for the songs.
His first full-length album, Thikaana, brings together 13 tracks and collaborators including Abdullah Siddiqui, Annural Khalid, Talha Anjum and Abdul Hannan. In early 2026 he took the project to North America on the Thikaana tour.
