Mini bio

How it started.

Animal Control found Marnie on the streets of Connecticut in August 2012. A shelter called her Stinky. Four months later, Shirley Braha found her through Petfinder and brought her home to New York City. With care, her health and confidence improved.

A life in pictures.

Braha’s photographs and playful captions turned Marnie into an online personality. By 2015, The New Yorker was profiling their life together. A photo book and the Marnie Pro app brought her face to bookshelves and fans’ own pictures.

Beyond the screen.

Marnie’s appearances included an Avvo commercial and a segment on The Doctors about her visits to hospitalized children. She was also an Animal finalist in the eighth annual Shorty Awards.

Her legacy.

Marnie died on March 5, 2020, aged 18. In her farewell, Braha described hearing from people who had adopted senior dogs because of Marnie. That encouragement to give older shelter dogs a home remains central to her story.
