Mini bio
Growing up with animals.
Cesar grew up around farm animals in Sinaloa, Mexico. In his PBS interview with Kate Sullivan, he traces his interest in caring for animals to the family he grew up with and the everyday rhythms of farm life.
Finding his way.
He arrived in the United States in 1990 and worked in dog grooming before building his own dog business. Jada Pinkett Smith became an early client and supporter, helping him learn English. His work with difficult dogs led to the Dog Psychology Center in Los Angeles.
The television breakthrough.
A 2002 Los Angeles Times profile helped lead to a television pilot. Dog Whisperer with Cesar Millan premiered on National Geographic in September 2004 and ran until 2012, bringing his work with dogs and their owners to a much wider audience.
A growing body of work.
Books including Cesar’s Way, co-written with Melissa Jo Peltier, extended his approach beyond television. Better Human Better Dog arrived in 2021. Today, his official YouTube channel shares cases and practical discussions alongside his workshops and online Pack Leadership Community.
