Mini bio
How it started.
Jan Pol grew up on a dairy farm in the Netherlands. Helping deliver piglets at 12 made him want to become a veterinarian. He met Diane during a high-school exchange in Michigan, graduated from Utrecht University in 1970 and moved to the United States in 1971.
A practice of their own.
In 1981, Jan and Diane opened Pol Veterinary Services out of their garage in Weidman, Michigan. His work treating pets and livestock became the heart of The Incredible Dr. Pol, which debuted on Nat Geo WILD in 2011.
Beyond the clinic.
His 2014 memoir, Never Turn Your Back on an Angus Cow, collected stories from country veterinary life. The Incredible Pol Farm later brought three generations of the family together around the work of building a 350-acre farm.

After 24 seasons of the original series, Dr. Pol continues sharing stories online. His official YouTube channel, Dr. Pol Presents, carries family farm videos, and in September 2026 he introduced a personal blog about his experiences and the questions animal owners ask him.
