Mini bio

How it started.

Matt grew up in Virginia and competed in snowboarding before getting interested in hip-hop dance and DJing at 17. He learned from music videos, joined the local dance scene and began teaching workshops. In 2010, he drove his Honda Civic across the country to Los Angeles.

Finding his audience.

His early videos were a way to share his progress with friends and grandparents. In a 2016 Tubefilter interview, he recalled a video bringing him an invitation to teach at a studio. He later put more time into YouTube, making routines, tutorials and the reality series DanceCon. That year, he also won season 28 of The Amazing Race.

Teaching from anywhere.

Matt launched DNCR Academy in 2020 during the pandemic. In his Athleisure Mag interview, he described wanting to offer the training he had missed growing up, with lessons spanning hip-hop, shuffling and animation.

Music alongside movement.

His artist biography dates his debut single, “I Need U,” to 2020, followed by “Goodbye” in 2021. He has taken his music to festivals including EDC. His later releases include “Deeper Love” and the Brandon Beal collaboration “Love (Where We Are).” In 2026, he spoke with Suno about creating and owning more of the music connected to his videos.
