Mini bio

How it started.

Henry studied math and physics before heading to Los Angeles to pursue filmmaking. Visual effects work for Freddie Wong and Brandon Laatsch showed him that YouTube could be a place to build an audience. Inspired by RSA Animate’s sketch videos, he combined his interests in MinutePhysics.

Finding an audience.

The channel began in 2011 with What is Gravity? Its drawings, narration and short explanations quickly found viewers. By his November 2011 Perimeter talk, Henry could describe a project that had reached 120,000 subscribers and 9 million views in just a few months.

Questions worth drawing.

His videos move between everyday puzzles and theoretical physics. You can start with whether to walk or run in rain, follow his Higgs boson explanations, or watch the collaboration with 3Blue1Brown reconstructing Feynman’s explanation of elliptical orbits.

Beyond MinutePhysics.

Henry also founded Neptune Studios, where he serves as owner and executive producer. Its projects include MinuteEarth, MinuteFood and xkcd’s What If? He describes his aim as making complex ideas feel friendly while staying faithful to the science.
