Mini bio

How it started.

Mitch studied biological science at the University of Guelph, where he met Greg Brown. After graduation he worked in a lab, then moved into video editing. AsapSCIENCE began as a hobby in 2012, bringing their science interests to YouTube.

The questions caught on.

Whiteboard drawings, narration and everyday mysteries became their signature. By 2014, their chicken-or-egg explainer was their biggest video, and the pair were working full time on the channel. That year they also made sports science videos for CBC’s Olympic coverage and collaborated with childhood hero Bill Nye.

Science you can sing or read.

Mitch’s musical side is part of the work: he wrote, directed, produced, edited and sang the 2018 update of The Periodic Table Song. He and Greg also co-wrote the 2015 book AsapSCIENCE, a New York Times bestseller that brings their illustrated approach to everyday scientific questions.

Beyond the whiteboard.

On Sidenote, Mitch and Greg explore science through studies, anecdotes and interviews. Their official biography also describes their work supporting queer voices in STEM and speaking about environmental change. In 2023, Mitch was invested with Canada’s Meritorious Service Medal for his contribution to science education through AsapSCIENCE.
