Mini bio
How it started.
Born and raised in Zimbabwe, Mufti Menk attended St John’s College and once hoped to become an ophthalmologist. His path took him into Shariah studies in Madinah and a specialisation in jurisprudence, as he recounts in the biography included in Motivational Moments II.
Finding an audience.
His long-form lessons became a lasting part of his online work. Stories of the Prophets was recorded at Zeentul Islam Masjid in Cape Town during Ramadan 2011; the opening lesson appeared on his official YouTube channel in April 2012. The Muslim 500 highlights his ability to connect religious principles with contemporary life, especially for younger Muslims.
From posts to books.
Motivational Moments gathered 500 quotes that readers had liked or shared on his Facebook and Twitter accounts. Apple Books dates the digital edition to December 2016. Motivational Moments II followed, with a 2019 copyright in the edition hosted on his website. He also co-authored Stories of the Prophets with Dr Salah Sharief, bringing lessons from the prophets’ lives to the page.
