How it started.
Nerida grew up in Sydney, graduated beauty school in 1978 and opened her first business at 19. A second followed at 21. She moved to America at 29 and spent ten years at the Peninsula Hotel in Beverly Hills, later helping develop hotel spas elsewhere in the country.
From treatment room to camera.
Her reputation grew through facial work and long relationships with clients such as Jennifer Garner. In her 2025 CanvasRebel interview, Nerida said she started YouTube about eight years earlier to help people understand her approach to acne care.
Teaching what she practices.
Her FIVESTAR Method organizes professional training into skin analysis, preparation, treatment, education and homecare regimens. Her official biography says beauty schools use her YouTube videos. Alongside online lessons, she teaches through the Understanding Skin Tour and contributes to NewBeauty’s Brain Trust.
A cleanser of her own.
Confidence by Nerida Joy began with a facial cleanser. She designed it around a concern she often encountered in her practice: cleansing that leaves the surface of the skin dry. The product reflects the attention she gives to the first step of a routine.
