How it started
Growing up in mid-Wales, Ali got into music through skateboard video soundtracks and started playing drums. He moved to Cardiff at 16 and studied music technology while making his own recordings.
Finding Novo Amor
A summer in Woodgate, New York in 2011 and a later breakup helped shape the project. His 2014 EP Woodgate, NY introduced its spacious folk sound, followed by “Anchor,” whose video helped bring the music to a wider audience.
Albums and collaborations
After the collaborative album Heiress with Ed Tullett, Ali released his solo debut Birthplace in 2018. Cannot Be, Whatsoever followed in 2020 and Collapse List in 2024, with Tullett among his recurring collaborators.
